Rumors of ICE Helicopter at Ukiah Airport to Conduct Local Immigration Raids are ‘False’ says Sheriff Kendall

Categories:

Mendocino County Sheriff Matt Kendall said social media rumors of an Immigration & Customs Enforcement Helicopter in the county to conduct immigration raids are unequivocally false. Sheriff Kendall said the helicopter residents have seen at the airport is in fact from Custom and Border Protection’s air and marine unit and is being used to spot illegal marijuana farms.

Sheriff Kendall explained that because many square miles of Mendocino County are under federal jurisdiction (Bureau of Land Management, United State Forest Service, and Native American Reservations), the county utilizes federal resources to combat illegal marijuana farms.

Sheriff Kendall said that the utilization of federal resources saves Mendocino County money, “I try to save the taxpayers of Mendocino County as much money as possible.”
