[UPDATE w/ Video] Fire Burning into Timber Besides Highway 101 South of Willits Bypass

A fire is burning near the Highway 101 south of the Willits bypass. Scanner traffic indicates the fire is currently 1/2 acre and is growing at a moderate rate of spread.

First responders are reporting to dispatch that the fire is moving uphill into timber.

Scanner traffic indicates personnel have made contact with a trailer that was dragging a chain that could be the cause of the fire.

This is an evolving situation and the article will be updated as the situation unfolds.

UPDATE 7:15 p.m.

Scanner traffic indicates fire personnel are making “good progress” on the fire and have canceled the rest of the resources not currently at the scene.

UPDATE 7:22 p.m.

The dispatcher was the vehicle suspected of dragging a chain that caused the fire has yet to be found and they are investigating leads.

UPDATE 7:30 p.m.

Scanner traffic indicates that the fire has been contained.
