[UPDATE] Law Enforcement Investigating a Homicide That Occurred This Morning on the Mendocino County Coast


According to Mendocino County Sheriff’s Public Information Officer Captain Greg Van Patten, “There is a homicide investigation underway right now in Caspar.” 

A review of scanner traffic between 5:30-6:30 this morning indicates that a collision occurred in Caspar near or on Pacifica Drive involving an automobile and a motorcycle. Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office was requested to the scene because there were indications that some sort of “violence” occurred in association with the traffic collision.

At one point, an 11-44 (possible fatality) was confirmed at the scene.

The following statement was issued on the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page:

Deputies on scene investigating the fatality in Caspar [Picture from the MCSO Facebook page]

On 12-24-2020 at approximately 6:30 AM Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a reported traffic collision with a fatality in Caspar.

During the initial scene investigation it was determined a shooting had occurred in the city of Fort Bragg which soon thereafter resulted in the traffic collision fatality in Caspar.

Sheriff’s Detectives were summoned to the scene and are conducting follow-up investigations, which are still ongoing at this time.Sheriff’s Detectives are working with the Fort Bragg Police Department, California Highway Patrol, Mendocino County District Attorney’s Office, California Department of Fish & Wildlife and California Department of Justice Criminalist Division.

A press release will made public when more information becomes available at the conclusion of the investigation.
