CHP Provides Details on Christmas Day Traffic Fatality on Highway 20

The following press release was issued by the California Highway Patrol:

On 12/25/2020, at approximately 1058 hours, Party #1 was driving eastbound on State Route 20, west of mile post marker 4.51, at an unsafe speed for conditions. Due to Party #1’s high rate of speed in the wet conditions, Party #1 allowed the vehicle to travel off the south roadway edge in a southeasterly direction, where it collided with a tree. As a result of this collision, Party #1 sustained fatal injuries, Party #1 was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. Alcohol and/or drugs are not considered to be a factor in this collision. The cause of this collision is still under investigation. Party #1’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
