The following statement was issued on the National Weather Service Eureka, California Facebook page:
A long-period west-northwest swell will bring a threat of sneaker waves to area beaches this afternoon and evening. Don’t be fooled by an ocean that looks calm. Large, unexpected waves can appear suddenly and sweep across the beach without warning. Beachgoers are urged to avoid rocks and jetties, as well as steep beaches. Stay much farther back from the water and remember to never turn your back on the ocean!
