[UPDATE: Now Over 4,000 Residents without Power]Over 900 Mendocino County Residents Without Electricity as Winter Storm Bears Down

With reports of transformers blowing up, limbs colliding with power lines, high winds, rains, and snow, at this point in the evening, over 900 Mendocino County residents are without power ranging from the North County’s Brooktrails, Willits, and Laytonville and Mendocino Coast’s Fort Bragg and Caspar

Brooktrails Power Outage

The most significant outage currently in Mendocino County is in Brooktrails where approximately 571 customers are said to be without power. The PG&E outage map identifies weather as the cause of the outage and there is no estimated time of restoration.

Scanner traffic indicates power lines were reported to have fallen into a Brooktrails roadway and a resident posted a picture on social media of a snow covered power line with a transforming blowing up on the top.

Fair Oaks Power Outage

45 PG&E customers are said to be without power southeast of Willits near the community of Fair Oaks. Similar to the other outages in the county, the cause is attributed to the weather and there is no estimated time of restoration.

Fort Bragg Power Outage

A Fort Bragg power outage is affecting approximately 59 PG&E customers and the outage map indicates the “preliminary determination is that your outage was caused by the weather.” There is no estimated time that the power will be restored.

Caspar Power Outage

Another coastal outage is reported to be southeast of Caspar with 115 customers affected. The PG&E power outage map identifies the cause as weather and there is no estimated time for restoration.

North County Power Outage

Another power outage is mapped in the North County south of Laytonville crossing over Highway 101 reaching eastward to Highway 162 with approximately 127 customers said to be without power.

UPDATE 6:25 p.m.

According to the PG&E Outage map, another 1,758 Mendocino County residents are without power after scanner traffic power lines were seen arcing on Talmage Road.

UPDATE 7:25 p.m.

The number of Mendocino County residents in the dark this stormy evening continues to increase. According to the PG&E Outage map, approximately 4,200 residents are now without power. The areas recently affected by power outages include Laytonville and communities east of Laytonville, Covelo, and communities around Willits.
