Mendocino County Public Health announced this morning that 28 additional cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the community and another resident has succumbed to the virus marking 40 total deaths since the virus began.

Ashley Toxqui, Mendocino County Public Health’s Public Information Officer, told us “Our 40th death, which marks a grim milestone for our community, was an 81-year-old American Indian male from the South Coast region. He passed away in the hospital.”

Mendocino County Public Health defines the South Coast region as the communities of Mendocino, Little River, Albion, Elk, Manchester, Point Arena, Anchor Bay, Gualala.

In light of the continued risks of COVID-19, Toxqui said Public Health hopes Mendocino County residents “continue to avoid gatherings, even if you have been vaccinated. One can still spread the virus even if they have been vaccinated, so social distancing is still key.”
