24-year-old Hailey Skye Margaret Louise Aylwin Turner went missing in Ukiah Monday morning in the midst of psychosis, her step-mother Trish Turner told us. Her step-daughter was receiving treatment at Ukiah Recovery Center when “they changed her meds,” and troubling symptoms led staff to attempt to hospitalize her. According to Trish, it is unclear what occurred, but Monday morning Hailey fled the facility and is now missing.

Trish said her step-daughter suffers from schizoaffective disorder, bipolar type and has been receiving treatment for many years. Hailey’s symptoms cause her to “talk to people who are not there, walk down the middle of the street, waving her arms in the air,” leaving her vulnerable to potentially dangerous people.

Hailey Turner has spent the last five years in Lake County and is under a conservatorship with Lake County Adult Services due to her mental illness. For the previous year and a half, Hailey Turner had been a patient at Crestwood Behavioral Health in Angwin receiving treatment. On February 2, 2021, she was transferred to Ukiah Recovery Center. According to Trish Turner, the decision was made to change Hailey’s drug cocktail, and her symptoms reemerged.

On Monday morning, Trish got a call about Hailey “getting away” from staff while being transferred to Adventist Health Ukiah Valley due to the severity of her symptoms. Trish and Hailey’s father Shawn were unclear about whether Hailey fled from Adventist Health on Hospital Drive or the Ukiah Recovery Center of Ford Street.

After Hailey fled, Trish was contacted by Lake County Adult Services, telling her that Hailey was missing and Ukiah Police Department had been notified.

This is not the first time Hailey has runaway while in a vulnerable state, Trish told us: “she has done this before and almost died after almost getting hit by a car.” Trish said when Hailey runs away, she often is found “amongst homeless encampments or panhandling near businesses.”

We reached out to Ukiah Police Department for comment regarding the investigation into Hailey Turner’s whereabouts but have yet to receive a reply.

Hailey Turner is 5’2’’ and approximately 135 pounds. Her eyes are brown, and from what her step-mother last saw, her hair is brown with light blonde ends. Other distinguishing characteristics include a nose and belly button piercing. The last time Hailey was seen she was wearing a black hoodie and leopard print leggings.

If you see Hailey Turner or have any information about her whereabouts, please contact Ukiah Police Department at (707) 463-6242.

UPDATE 9:35 a.m.

Ukiah Police Department’s Operation Lieutenant Andy Phillips said the department does not have a missing person report on file for Hailey Turner, but  a stop and Check Welfare BOLO has been issued. He clarified the different between the two circumstances:

A Missing Person case is exactly that.  A person has been reported as missing and a formal case / investigation has been begun to locate the person.  A Stop and Check the Welfare BOLO is used for many different situations; such as if a person is not necessarily “missing” but someone wants law enforcement to be aware they would like to be contacted if law enforcement comes into contact with the person, or if a motorist is overdue, or if the person has made vague statements of a danger to themselves and the reporting party wants their welfare checked.  This type of BOLO is not authority to detain anyone, but simply for officers to be aware that someone wants that person contacted and to be notified if or when that occurs.

UPDATE 7:41 p.m.

Hailey Turner has been located after calling her family and is now receiving medical care, her step-mother Trish reports.

  1. So glad Hailey has been found. Hopefully Hailey will get what she needs to live a happy productive life but it will take a combo, in my option, what has worked best for me and my friends is Meds, Supportive friends and family whether you have to create your own and those who support you to learn what is happing to us affect by mental issues and to have support for our support team too. Teachings on coping skill, learning early warning signs, emergency plans, and learning in a trusted place, having a place to belong, even if a hospital and a mission to stay alive and well. Thank you for all’s for your hard work and dedication. I may not be Hailey but to think people would do this for me is so hopeful I am not alone in my illness. I am sorry to the family and friends and strangers like us who wait praying in fear that Hailey, (or anyone we know or us who live in fear too) will survive this and have a safe happy life. It is possible Hope we can have future up dates on Hailey if she wishes to share. Wish you all the best. Thank you for sharing this story
