Mendocino Sheriff Deputies Nab Late Night Mail Thief in Fort Bragg

The following is a press released issued by the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

On 02-14-2021 at about 3:30 AM, Mendocino County Sheriff’s Deputies were alerted to a possible mail theft situation in the 18000 block of Ocean Drive in Fort Bragg, California.

Deputies arrived in the area and observed a single male subject walking away from the area. 

Deputies contacted the male, identified as being Robert Hayes, and observed several items in his jacket. Deputies spoke with Hayes regarding the items and located multiple articles of mail from several different addresses. Hayes was also found to be in possession of heroin.

Hayes was ultimately arrested pursuant to 530.5(e) PC (Mail Theft) and 11350(a) H&S (Possession of a Controlled Substance).

In accordance with the COVID-19 emergency order issued by the State of California Judicial Council, Hayes was released with a signed promise to appear in court on a later date.
