A GoFundMe has been established to help the couple start over after the fire. Funds donated will help them obtain temporary housing, clothing, and anything necessary to start over.

Aum said he was not at home when the fire began because “I had gone to Ukiah to run errands.”

When Aum arrived home, he found his house burning with “multiple fire engines putting it out.” He was told by emergency personnel his girlfriend “had been flown to the UC Davis Medical Center” to treat the third-degree burns she suffered.

As to the cause of the fire, Aum said Waldrep had come home and tried to start a fire when “it jumped to the floor than the rug.” He was unsure as to what point his girlfriend was burned. At one point Waldrep “broke a window after escaping to try to let my cat out, who I haven’t found yet,” Aum said.

Aum spent yesterday picking through the remains of his home which he said is considered a total loss. He spent the day trying to locate his cat named “Cat Cat” who has not been seen since the fire and trying to get clothes for Jen ,which all burned.
