Mendocino County’s Turnout Fire Stands at 200 Acres and 25% Containment

As per a 7:00 a.m. updated from the Mendocino County Calfire unit, the Turnout Fire burning in rugged, steep terrain between Ukiah and Boonville near Highway 253 is 200 acres in size and 25% contained.

As per the situation summary provided by Calfire, firefighters will work throughout the day to improve containment lines, knock down hotspots, and remove hazard trees. Overnight temperatures in the low fifties allowed “firefighters to make progress,” as per the situation summary. The steep and rugged terrain continues to “challenge control efforts.”

As fire fighters have attempted to control the blaze, five fire engines, one water tender, one helicopter, one dozer, and four hand crews have been assigned to the Turnaround fire totaling 79 personnel. The incident update identified Sunday, April 18, 2021 at 5:51 p.m as the start of the blaze the the cause still “under investigation.”
