Categories:

The following is a press release from the California Highway Patrol:

On April 20, 2021 at approximately 5:04pm, Phoebe Smith was driving her 2012 Honda Accord northbound on US 101, south of Ryan Creek, in Mendocino County.  At the same time, Lorraine Pulido was driving her 2019 Chevrolet Colorado southbound on US 101 approaching the Honda.  For reasons still under investigation, Smith lost control of the Honda as she traveled through a curve in the road and slid across all lanes and directly into the path of the Chevrolet.  The two vehicles collided head on and came to rest within the lanes.  As a result of the collision, both Smith and Pulido suffered major injury and were transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, Smith by Helicopter.  The Juvenile sustained minor injuries and accompanied Pulido to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital via ground Ambulance.

Cal-Trans and Cal-Fire assisted with traffic control.  The California Highway Patrol is investigating this collision.  Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in this collision.

US 101 was closed for approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes during the investigations.
