At 12:51 p.m., Hopland Fire, Cal Fire personnel, and California Highway Patrol responded to reports of a fire near Highway 101 in the vicinity of the Green Bridge south of Hopland. Upon arrival, the fire proved to be a 30’X30′ burn pile that was unattended.

As per the CHP Traffic Incident Information Page, the fire was extinguished at 1:07 p.m. and was in the same area smoke was reported earlier today.

According to burn pile rules described by Cal Fire, “A responsible adult is required by law to be in attendance until the fire is out.”

  1. I was driving down to SR and called this in as well (dispatch knew about it, but no one onsite yet). The fire was not just in the burn pile but in the trees/brush next to it.

  2. There may be no “responsible adult” at the scene, but there must be a property owner of record.
Someone should get a citation for this brainless stunt.
