At approximately 10:00 a.m. reports began to emerge of an aircraft crashing into Lake Mendocino. As more information has come to light, the aircraft with a wingspan of approximately 30 feet wrecked into the lake approximately 30 feet from the bank. The pilot was unharmed. First responders are now coordinating the retrieval of the aircraft.
A review of scanner traffic indicates the Army Corps of Engineers have deployed equipment to mitigate potential oil spills. The incident commander reported there was no oil sheen on top of the water.Search and rescue personnel on jet skis are surveying the scene and coordination of retrieval is on-going.
Reportedly the plane was having engine problems and was unable to return to land.
Any update
