Sights and Smells of Smoke in Ukiah Caused by Controlled Burns Near Lake Mendocino

Categories:

As of 10:18 a.m., many residents in the City of Ukiah are reporting the smell of smoke in the air and the valley being tainted with a slight haze. As per a conversation with Ukiah Valley Fire Authority Battalion Chief Eric Singleton, the source of the smoke is a series of controlled burns in the 300 block of Lake Mendocino Drive.

Battalion Chief Singleton told us UVFA personnel had checked out the burns and made sure they were conducted safely. He added the property owners expressed the burns would be over shortly.

According to AirNow.gov, a government-run air quality monitor, despite the smell and sight of smoke in the Ukiah Valley, the air quality is currently considered “good” and outdoor activities are considered safe.
