In the spirit of capturing moments worth remembering, MendoFever will now feature MendoMoments, a column dedicated to showcasing the land, animals, and people that make up Mendocino County. All Mendocino County residents and visitors are invited to participate. Send photographs to matthewplafever@gmail.com including a description of what your photograph depicts, where it was taken, and any other important details.

For our first installment of MendoMoments, we are featuring a photograph from Hopland resident Vernon Hamilton Budinger. On a walk along Hopland’s Old Yorkville Road, he pointed his lens skyward and captured cumulonimbus gathering above the Mayacama Mountains. Budinger said, “Everyone in the region was on edge because wildfire danger from lightning strikes in a area struggling with lack of rain.”
