Mendocino County Sheriff deputies and medical personnel are currently engaged in a standoff situation on the 100 Block of Coyote Valley Boulevard in Redwood Valley regarding a possibly-armed suspect with a violent history holed up in a shed.
Scanner traffic indicates the last few days the suspect made statements he “wants a shoot out with the cops” and that is “how we wants to go out.”
Deputies on scene reported to dispatch they heard the sound of a magazine being inserted into a firearm.
MCSO Public Information Officer Captain Greg Van Patten told us deputies were serving a warrant this morning when the suspect began to hide in the shed.
Captain Van Patten said the suspect is a Tiny Lew Wolf Whipple and has a history of being violent and non-cooperative with law enforcement.
Throughout the morning, the suspect has spoken with family on-site including his brother and mother. Negotiations are on-going.

A SWAT team vehicle arrived at scene.

MCSO Public Information Officer Captain Greg Van Patten told us the suspect is still barricaded and active negotiations are ongoing.

MCSO’s Public Information Officer Captain Greg Van Patten confirmed the stand-off continues and the tribal government issued a shelter-in-place message to nearby residents.
