Scanner traffic indicates at approximately 9:05 a.m. Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to reports of a victim being threatened with a firearm and shots being fired at Cherry Creek Rest Stop north of Longvale along Highway 101.

A witness to the incident described seeing a black male holding a gun on a victim. The suspect then fled driving south on Highway 101 in a black Kia.

The vehicle was spotted on Hwy 101 near Willits and the California Highway Patrol Garberville’s Public Information Officer Rick Fowler told us that CHP diverted traffic away from the Willits Bypass for a very short period of time.

Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Captain Greg Van Patten said deputies responded at the request of Humboldt County California Highway Patrol regarding the incident. He told us deputies saw the vehicle on Highway 101 south of the Willits Bypass and conducted a felony stop on the vehicle and detained the driver.

Fowler confirmed that the suspect is in custody and Hwy 101 is now reopened.
