At approximately 11:00 p.m. last night, a traffic collision led to significant power outages in Ukiah’s Westside. The vehicle’s driver was booked in the county jail on suspicion of driving under the influence and three others were hospitalized as a result of the collision.

Ukiah Police Department Lieutenant Andrew Phillips said 19-year-old Jose Lopez was arrested for DUI suspected of driving the vehicle that careened into the utility pole near the intersection of Ukiah’s South Dora Street and Washington Street. Lieutenant Phillips said the collision involved a total of three vehicles and three people were hospitalized due to the collision. He added the City of Ukiah’s Electric Department responded to the scene.

As of this morning, power has been restored throughout the area.

I like to think of myself as a reporter for the Average Joe. Journalism has become a craft defined largely by city dwellers on America's coasts. It’s time to take it back. I have been an Emerald Triangle resident since 2006 and this is year ten in Mendocino County. Please, email me at matthewplafever@gmail.com if you know a story that needs to be told.
