At approximately 6:40 p.m. firefighters responded to reports of a porch burning near the County Administration Buildings on Low Gap Road and by 6:45 Mendocino County Probation Department’s Daily Reporting Center was fully engulfed in flames.
Ukiah Valley Fire Authority, Cal Fire, and Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and successfully knocked back the flames avoiding threats to other structures.
The fire burned a modular building along Low Gap Road and a eyewitness told us the building is not completley destroyed but no longer usable. The modular building used to be the Ukiah Field Office for Congressman Jared Huffman.
At 6:59 p.m. the Incident a commander reported the fire has successfully been knocked down and it would take approximately one hour to extinguish thoroughly. That means it took fire crews approximately 15 minutes to control an out of control burning building.
We have contacted Ukiah Valley Fire Authorities Battalion Chief Justin Buckingham for comment and are awaiting his words.
