A year and two days ago, several buildings in downtown Covelo burned. The suspected arsonist has yet to be caught and a year and two days later the outlet that broke the story, MendoFever, lives on.
Since then, it’s been a whirlwind. It has been so busy that we forgot to celebrate our own birthday. Today marks 367 days of covering Mendocino County news.
Crime, cannabis, fires, storms. Moments of grace, beauty, and community. Mendocino’s County offers a broad swath of news events every day that not a single news outlet could ever keep up with.
Legacy media are freighters; hyper local small newsrooms like ours are catamarans. We can turn at the drop of a dime and cover a traffic collision, a vehicle pursuit, or a family overjoyed finding their lost pet.
The electric nature of providing information for the community fuels this website. The appreciation, engagement, and, at times, constructive criticism validates the work I do.
Maybe you have been with MendoFever from the beginning. Maybe you just discovered us. Regardless, we will be here tomorrow and we hope you will be, too.
If you have found MendoFever to be a reliable way for you to get informed about your community, consider donating. Though we try to make this look effortless, it is not.
Thank you for your time, readership, and support.
Happy birthday to the future of Mendocino County’s, soon to be, very best news site.
