On 08/05/2021, at approximately 2:50 PM, Mr. Alejandro Tapia Castrejon was driving a blue 2005 Saturn, northbound US-101 north of Steele Lane, in the northbound lane, at an unknown rate of speed. Mr. Salvador Rodriguez was driving a 2012 Freightliner, southbound US-101, in the southbound lane, at approximately 55 mph. Mr. Rodriguez entered a curve in the roadway, and for reasons still under investigation, the Saturn entered the southbound lane, into the direct path of the Freightliner, where the Saturn and Freightliner collided head-on.

[Mr. Alejandro Tapia Castrejon] sustained major injuries and was airlifted to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. Mr. Rodriguez sustained minor injuries and was transported to Howard Memorial Hospital.

US-101 was closed for approximately one hour while the collision was being investigated.

This cause of this collision is still under investigation by the Garberville Area California Highway Patrol.
