Fort Bragg Man Booked in County Jail for Failing to Register as Sex Offender in Texas and Tennessee

The following is a press release from the Fort Bragg Police Department. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

On 08/16/2021 at approximately 0758 hours, Officers responded to the area for a welfare check on a male subject lying on the ground. Upon arrival, Officers contacted Steven Carte, who did not require medical attention.

Upon a records check, Officers were advised Carte is a Sex Registrant with prior
convictions for failing to register in Texas, and Tennessee. Carte provided multiple false
statements to officers including when he returned to California, when he last registered,
and that he had been informed he was no longer required to register. Carte was arrested
without incident, and transported to the Mendocino County Jail.
