Half Acre Fire Burning Near Cummings After Reports of Power Lines Falling and Sparks Flying

Categories:

A full wildland fire response has been dispatched to the 60600 block of Highway 271 after firefighters located a half-acre fire burning at a slow rate of spread in timber, brush, and grass actively burning while responding to reports of power lines down.

Initial reports at approximately 9:02 p.m. indicated the reporting party saw flames and sparks and attributed them to power lines that had fallen.

Legget and Piercy Fire were dispatched to the scene and the Incident Commander said they have observed the active fire.

The PG&E website indicates that currently, 72 nearby residences are without power.

A Tweet from the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office warns Mendocino County residents that fire personnel are on scene and asked residents to “please use situational awareness and stay out of the area.”

Please remember that this story is unfolding. Information is being reported as we gather it. However, some of the information coming from witnesses and initial official reports could be wrong.
