Hey! It’s The Mo You Know, and its Tuesday! Here is my weekly update. This is not a comprehensive list of all of the meetings that I attend but a summary so that you can contact me if you are interested in a particular subject. I have a regular zoom meeting every Thursday from 7:15-7:45a that you are welcome to join: Meeting ID 7079548230 Password LOCAL707  My email is MulherenM@MendocinoCounty.Org and my cell phone is 707-391-3664

Wednesday
It’s that time of the year for the Hometown Heroes banners to go up. This was a project I worked on with Former Police Chief Chris Dewey. When we were speaking about our struggles recruiting qualified police officers we were talking about how some kids may chose a military career after high school and if we could get them to come back and work as law enforcement officers that would be great because they know the community. About a dozen people had tagged me in a post about Windsor’s banners honoring their military personnel so they Chief and I figured out a plan to bring the banner program to Ukiah. If you haven’t visited the website here is the link. http://ukiahhometownheroes.org We are going to have a small reunion on Saturday so the folks honored on the banners can get together and anyone interested in adding a banner can join us to find out more. We will meet at 8:30a-9:30a in the pocket park on Perkins and then take a walk on Perkins to check out the banners.
On the first Wednesday of the month I meet with the City Managers office and Council member Brown to discuss issues that affect the City and County. Of course Covid and the potential vaccine mandate were hot topics. We also discussed the Grand Jury reports around housing and homelessness. If you’d like to read those you can see them here: https://www.mendocinocounty.org/government/grand-jury/2019-2020-reports
I had a call with a gentleman that’s trying to do a project on the South end of Ukiah and worried about the Airport Land Use Commission. It’s nice to be able to be a sounding board to folks that want to make improvements to our community.
I attended the Ukiah Library needs assessment meeting. The Friends of the Ukiah Library paid for a needs assessment to come up with a plan for the Ukiah branch library. The building is owned by the City of Ukiah and they lease it for a $1. There are many variables but most important is that this gets included in the larger County facilities assessment to determine if there are better alternatives.
At the City of Ukiah City Council meeting they awarded this years slurry seal bid, updated the ambulance fees, and agreed to purchase an ice rink for the seasonal event Downtown instead of renting a rink.

Thursday
Every Thursday morning I host an only Zoom meeting I call “Coffee and Conversation” this is an opportunity to come and talk to me about whatever is on your mind. Just open Zoom and use Meeting ID 7079548230 and Password LOCAL707
I completed my first Leadership course through CSAC. I will be attending one meeting per month to receive my certification.
I had a meeting with a local restaurant about the vaccine mandate. Although the Board does not put the Public Health Orders in to place its important to hear how the community feels.
Meeting with County Counsel and Supervisor Haschak about Grand Jury – Reports and Responses for housing and homelessness. See the link above.

Friday
Started Friday morning with a meeting with MCSO about Alert and Warning. This fire season got off to a rocky start without consistent alert and warning for various fires. It’s important that everyone go to MendocinoSheriff.Com and scroll down to alert and warning and update their Everbridge and Nixle accounts. This will help you get accurate notifications in future fires.
I had a meeting at Mendocino College about their need for an emergency evacuation route. I’m glad that local agencies, neighborhoods and businesses are taking preparedness seriously. More to come.
I sat down with Jacque Williams at the Ford Street Project. It’s very important that our local residents have access to Substance Abuse Treatment. We will probably never have quick enough access for some folks but we can do much better as a County. If you’ve ever known an addict that has had to wait weeks to get in to treatment you know the odds of losing them back to the streets or in to their addiction.

Saturday
My favorite realtor and her lovely assistant took me to look at a house. If there ever was an elected that knows the struggle of housing in our area I’m your girl. We need to stop the NIMBYism and work together with developers to add more opportunities for housing.

Sunday
My daughter wasn’t feeling well so we stayed home. I got up on emails. So far we’ve gotten over 100 emails about the proposed vaccine mandate and over 100 emails about repealing the CCAO

Monday
On Monday I attended the Inland Mendocino Democratic Club Virtual meeting. We heard from Congressman Huffman, Senator McGuire and Assemblymember Wood. When it was my turn to give an update I realized that in 9 months we have come a long way. It’s hard to remember that when you’re caught in the weeds and the weeks seem to go by so fast. I’ll try to write up a recap for you all or do a video.

Tuesday
RRWA/RWQCB – daily acts, prescription take back needs to go all over the County will need to rely on more local initiatives, drought messaging and coordination needs to happen for all of the projects.

I totally missed Tuesday publishing. Well now you know what I’ve been up to over the last week. Don’t forget I’m happy to schedule a call or a Zoom meeting. 707-391-3664. MulherenM@MendocinoCounty.Org
