2nd District Supervisor Mo Mulheren’s Weekly Update: Inland Housing, Hometown Heros, and MendoLatino

This is not a comprehensive list of all of the meetings that I attend but a summary so that you can contact me if you are interested in a particular subject. Wednesday:
I dropped in and listed to the HHSA Board meeting. As a friendly reminder I am looking for board member. Here is the link to what the HHSA advisory board does. https://www.mendocinocounty.org/government/health-human-services-agency/hhsa-advisory-board
In the afternoon I attended the Building Bridges B2 Council of all of the agencies and providers that work with B2. This includes UPD and the City of Ukiah. Staffing has been a challenge but they are currently recruiting for more staff. The construction project also has challenges because they have not been able to hire staff that can keep that project (along with all of their other projects) going but they did thank the City staff for working with them to try to move it forward as quickly as possible. As a reminder there is a community clean up on the Second Saturday of each month so that supportive community members can come work with guests and staff to make sure the neighborhood is being kept clean. 

Thursday:
Every Thursday I have a meeting I call “Coffee and Conversation” we had some conversations about the Blue Zones Project and the Broadband Council of Mendocino County. I’m very excited about Blue Zones. I think the healthier our community is the better we all are. You know what they say a pound of prevention….. 
I’m concerned that the Broadband project is going to be very expensive and will take a long time to get any level of improved function. Please don’t forget to use the Broadband Test website. I was able to join the meeting of the Inland Housing Action Team. This is a group of interested stake holders and community members that want to have more housing in Inland Mendocino County. They are looking for more people to join and would like to take their conference they were going to have to make it virtual. This would be a conference with one meeting for renters and one for landlords. I discussed with them the work I’m trying to do to connect the developer of the new project on Feedlot Lane with future applicants. We also discussed the proposed Bella Vista project south of town across from the Ukiah Valley Athletic Club. 
I had an EDFC Board of Directors Meeting. They are doing a good job of getting loans out and reporting back the results. So far the team of three seems to be working out. 

Friday: 
As you know the Agenda comes out on Thursdays. A lot of my time on Fridays is spent reviewing each item, noting the number of attachments so I can make sure that I’ve read everything. I’m still working with the Clerk of the Board Staff to work with Granicus to make sure that all of the attachments including the Agenda Summary Report are readily visible to everyone. The majority of the information you need to understand an agenda item is in fact in the ASR. It often leads to miscommunication when people for instance review a slide show presentation without the content from ASR. 

Saturday:
On Saturday morning I picked up coffee and donuts and headed to the little pocket park on Perkins Street to hold the Hometown Heroes Reunion. about 9-10 folks showed up to socially distance to talk about their service in the military and their role in the community now. We decided that we like the morning meeting on 9/11 and that will be our new tradition. So save the date next year and watch for Ukiah Hometown Heroes on Facebook. Don’t forget they will be up until November 11, so take a stroll down Perkins and check it out.
In the afternoon I worked on a display honoring the 13 US Soldiers that passed away in Afghanistan.

Sunday:
On Sunday morning I went to Zumba and then worked on getting my line dancing certificate. Yes, line dancing. I’m going to start teaching Country Fusion line dancing at Young for Life. This isn’t technically Supervisor related but I think that reminding people that fitness and health are good for our community and help our mental health. As you know on Sunday afternoon the Hopkins fire started in Calpella. I spent the afternoon and evening engaging with County and State Staff and residents regarding the fire. I’m sorry for those that lost their homes and pets, grateful we didn’t lose any lives.

Monday:
Monday during our LAFCO Board meeting Josh Metz mentioned that a truck that normally delivers milk to make ice cream is now delivering water from Ukiah to Fort Bragg, isn’t that “sweet”. Supervisor McGourty said that the water being hauled “is a puddle” in terms of municipal water use so people should not be concerned about the amount of water being sent over the hill. We all need to keep conserving and supporting each other.
During the meeting we also discussed and approved the Covelo Updated MSR/SOI and had the introduction of the Ukiah Valley Fire Authority MSR/SOI update to incorporate the City of Ukiah within the Ukiah Valley Fire District. 
I had an overlapping meeting with the NCRA. The NCRA is in the final months of its wind down before it becomes the Great Redwood Trail Board. There are still many hoops to jump through but the NCRA Board is committed to moving us forward. 
I had a lunch meeting at Ford Street to discuss the results of the  first year of the Drug Medi-Cal Pilot. We talked about the myth busting that needs to happen in the community, and the efforts that Ukiah Recovery Center has faced over the last year. I will be asking more questions about Substance Abuse Treatment in our community on my Facebook page.
