Late Night Shooting at a Covelo Bar Leaves One Dead and Authorities Searching for Two ‘Armed and Dangerous’ Suspects

Categories:

In an early morning Facebook post, the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in locating two armed and dangerous suspects associated with last night’s shooting outside Covelo’s Buckhorn Bar that left one person dead.

MCSO described the two suspects associated with the homicide:

  • Dino Michael Blackbear (AKA Lincoln), 34-year-old, 6′, 220 pounds, black hair, and brown eyes
  • Carina Amanda Carrillo, 32-years-old, 5′ 6”, 120 pounds, black hair and brown eyes

The Facebook post by MCSO describes the incident occurring near the intersection of Greeley and Highway 162 in Covelo at approximately 11:30 p.m. Blackbear and Carrillo were last seen traveling on foot near the area of Tabor Lane at 12:30 a.m.

Scanner traffic from last night’s homicide placed the incident at the Buckhorn Bar and portrayed a dramatic scene. The dispatcher worked hard to coach the reporting party through CPR while the reporting party initially was screaming through the telephone. The victim was reportedly transported via ambulance but succumbed to their injuries.

MCSO warned the suspects should be considered “armed and dangerous with a small caliber firearm” and urged members of the public to “not approach and contact 9-1-1.”

MCSO asks that any member of the public, “with information regarding their possible whereabouts is urged to contact the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office at 707-463-4086. Anyone wishing to remain anonymous is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office Tip-Line at 707-234-2100.”

  1. May there be justice for this young soul and his spirit be set free. Praying for this senseless violence to stop. We live in too small of a town for all the tragedy that plagued our valley. Maybe this place really is cursed from when the white Men came in and devastated the Native American Community.

    • Time to bring full time law back to Round Valley. If Mendocino County invests in Round Valley, there will be returns. Start by getting a water and hydrant system so development can start. This will chase lawlessness away. No waiting for the next century. Board of Stupidvisors wake up and do your job!

      • Bull crap. Clean up your act. Always looking for a reason to blame the whites. Kenny Whipple was a shite disturber. He should have been in jail where he belonged. Maybe he would not have crossed the wrong person. The county DA bears some responsibility for failure to prosecute, and the catch and release program.

    • The young man was a major valkey punk. A long time troublemaker. His demise was predictable. Sad. Why blame the whites? If some parents are unwilling to bring up the children to honor education, and refuse to give a wide birth to drugs and alcohol, whose fault is that?

  2. I am sure the white men that came played a part, but until people start learning to take responsibility for themselves and their families, nothing will change.

  3. It is truly sad to read the conversation on here. Having taught in a native community I fell in love with children under my care. I always feel for the people we don’t read about. Parents who have lost children and brothers who lost sisters etc. Each story has so much hidden pain to us who read. Such a beautiful place yet full of pain. Prayers for them all.
