Public Health announced yesterday afternoon that two more Mendocino County residents have died from COVID-19 for a total of 86 residents who have succumbed to the virus.
The press release states the county’s 85th death was an 81-year-old, fully vaccinated woman from Fort Bragg. As to the 86th death, the decedent was a 51-year-old unvaccinated man from Ukiah.
According to the latest Mendocino County COVID-19 Dashboard update, the county’s daily positive cases is on the decline. 48 additional cases of COVID-19 were identified amongst county residents and the overwhelming majority of current cases are occurring in Ukiah (103), followed by Fort Bragg (43), and then Covelo (36).
On October 1, 2021, the Round Valley Indian Health Center published data on their Facebook page that characterized the valley experiencing a surge amongst residents under 35-years-old (60% of cases) and children making up 30% of cases. Women are currently 54% of those becoming infected. The data identified two common sources of exposure: close contact at home (44%) and community spread (43%).
It’s worth noting, across the Golden State, COVID-19 seems to be on a downward trend. A review of yesterday’s State of California COVID-19 Dashboard shows that daily cases, deaths, and hospitalization have decreased while ICU beds are becoming more available.
The press release describing the latest COVID-19 deaths encouraged all Mendocino County residents to consider “the ways they are protecting themselves and their families from COVID-19.” Vaccination, masking, and social distancing was encouraged as methods to combat COVID-19.
Booster shots were also encouraged by the press release, stating “Fully vaccinated people (with Pfizer) over age 65 (or over age 50 with certain health conditions) are recommended to get a COVID-19 vaccine booster to improve immunity that may have waned over time.”
