Last Friday, October 15, 2021, an eyewitness watched a woman jump off the Ron Ledford Memorial Bridge on Talmage Road east of Ukiah proper, according to Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office Greg Van Patten. The woman died after her fall and remains unidentified.
Mendocino County Sheriff’s deputies and other first responders arrived on the scene, according to Captain Greg Van Patten, and confirmed the woman had died as a result of the fall.
The identity of the adult woman, at this point, is unknown, explained Captain Van Patten. He had little details on her identity but was able to tell us that the woman is “possibly Native American or Pacific Islander.”
Captain Van Patten noted that upon arrival at the scene around 6:54 p.m., a deputy attempted CPR “but it was unsuccessful” and she was pronounced dead.
A review of scanner traffic from that evening indicates the woman jumped off the northwest portion of the bridge into the bed of the Russian River. After at least ten minutes of CPR, the woman was called deceased via a “trauma event.”
The fall is approximately 20 feet in the area where she jumped, according to Captain Van Patten.
When asked about other attributes about the woman such as height, weight, hair, and eye color, Captain Van Patten said those details could not be provided until after the autopsy. He did add the woman had no noticeable tattoos.
