On Sunday evening, on a roadway slick with recent rains, for reasons still unknown, 34-year-old Lakeport man Jesse Maldonado drove his 2019 Cadillac XTS southbound into the northbound lane of Highway 29. Maldonado’s vehicle collided head-on with a 2019 Nissan driven by 38-year-old Kelseyville woman Nicole Parrot who was pregnant. Parrot and her unborn child were ejected from the vehicle and by the end of the night, Parrot, the unborn child, and Maldonado succumbed to their injuries.
Other occupants of the Nissan were 41-year-old Kelseyville man Wade Wittman who suffered major injuries and an unidentified 16-year-old with minor injuries. Both were transported to Sutter-Lakeside Hospital for treatment.
Lieutenant Corey Paulich of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office told us that the intended name of the unborn child was Axel Wittman.
Highway 29 northbound was closed for approximately three hours as first responders tended to the wounded and cleaned up the scene.
Our hearts go out to the family and friends of all lost in this tragic incident.
