Mendocino County continues today to be saturated by rain as an atmospheric river pours upwards of 8” inches onto some areas of the county.

Travel is affected in some areas and we want to provide readers with a comprehensive resource for the status of local roadways. We are monitoring scanner traffic, the California Highway Patrol Traffic Incident Information page, and the Caltrans Quickmap to keep readers apprised of the changing conditions.

Roads to and from the Mendocino Coast

  • State Route 1
    • As per 2:55 p.m., there are reports there is one foot of moving water on State Route 1 near and are considering a closure.
    • State Route 1 is officially closed between Manchester and Point Arena after the Garcia River flooded its banks. Check out our article on the circumstance.
  • State Route 128
    • Highway 128 nearing the intersection with Highway 1 appears to have significantly slowed traffic. This area historically floods and as the rain continues that roadway could be impacted and possibly closed as in years past.
  • State Route 20
    • One way traffic is in place along Highway 20 about half-way between Fort Bragg and Willits due to a landslide. Caltrans is working to remove the slide. It is reportedly located “2.33 miles West from Three Chop Road.”
  • State Route 253/Ukiah-Boonville Road
    • A large boulder, approximately the size of a large vehicle is blocking both lanes of Robinson Creek Road, as of 1:50 p.m. This is not directly affecting Highway 253, but Robinson Creek has a signicifacnt number of residents most likely affected by the blockage.

Mendocino Inland Roads

  • Highway 101
    • As of 2:22 p.m., there are reportedly a couple of rocks on the roadway near the intersection of Feliz Creek and Mountain House Road.
    • Orr Springs Road, a single lane road that runs east to east between the Ukiah Valley and the Mendocino Coast, reportedly has a large boulder blocking traffic near its eastern terminus in the Ukiah Valley. There are also reports that flooding is impacting the roadway.
    • UPDATE 5:35 p.m.: There are reports of boulders on Highway 101 in the northbound lane south of Laytonville before the road becomes one-lane.
  • State Route 162
    • There are no current impacts on this roadway, but it should be noted that Round Valley locals have reported slides and water impacting the roadway throughout the day.
  • State Route 175
    • Again, there are no current incidents affecting this roadway, but throughout today there have been reports of boulders in the roadway.

Municipal Roads

  • Ukiah’s Perkins Street and Babcock Lane have significant standing water. Be safe when driving through the area.
  • A Willits resident told us multiple streets in and around the city are impacted including East Commerical Street/Hearst Road and East Valley Road. Also, Bray Road between Hearst Road and East Valley/Center Valley road is impacted by water, as well as East Hill Road near the Cemetary.

UPDATE 5:07 p.m.: The California State Parks Mendocino Facebook page has announced that several of their properties have been closed as a result of flooding including:
