[UPDATE 3:17 p.m.] Fatal Plane Crash Closes Ukiah Airport

Greg Owen, the Ukiah Airport Manager, confirmed this afternoon that a plane crashed on the south end of the runway. The occupant of the plane is deceased.

The Ukiah Airport’s runway is closed.

Captain Greg Van Patten of the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Department told our reporter, Matt LaFever, “We are in holding pattern with coroners investigation waiting for NTSB to arrive from Oakland. It technically occurred in city and UPD is lead investigating agency.”

At this point, no details have been released. We only know that the crash was discovered around 1:10 p.m., according to a dispatcher sending law enforcement to check a report of a plane upside down at the end of the runway.

UPDATE 3:17 p.m.: According to emergency personnel speaking over the scanner, the solo occupant was confirmed deceased at 1:25 p.m.
