Details of the traffic stop are unclear, but the impact on Highway 101 North near Ukiah was obvious for many members of the Mendocino County community this afternoon.

A review of scanner traffic beginning at approximately 1:50 p.m. indicates a vehicle stop resulted in the request of a K9, shields to approach the vehicle, and also resulted in responding officers drawing their weapons. Ukiah Police Department, California Highway Patrol, and the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office all responded to the incident.

As of 2:33 p.m., the Caltrans Quickmap shows Highway 101 northbound no longer impacted by the situation.

We have reached out to MCSO for some information on the circumstances of the traffic stop and will update the article when we are provided with the details.

UPDATE 4:36 p.m.: Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office Captain Greg Van Patten told us a felony car stop resulted in the large police presence seen on Highway 101 this afternoon. The stop occurred near the Highway 101 and Gobbi crossing and resulted in CHP actually deploying “less than lethal force.”
