About 11:39 p.m., a semi hauling propane overturned about mile marker 4.1 on Hwy 162. The semi landed on its side with smoke coming out. The propane, 2600 gallons, is leaking.
“They are currently trying to figure out a way to stop it,” said CHP Officer Rick Fowler.
He explained that with a propane leak road closures are going to be at least 1500 feet from the spill in either direction.
The driver had minor injuries, Fowler told us.

UPDATE 12:41 p.m.: The road may be closed for four hours according to the current estimate.
UPDATE 1:40 p.m.: The road is closed with no estimated time of reopening at Outlet Creek Bridge (mile marker 0.7) to Bloody Run Creek Bridge (Mile marker 7.13), according to Caltrans.
UPDATE 8:17 p.m.: Caltrans reports, “State Route 162 in Mendocino County remains closed due to overturned propane truck. Estimated reopening at 10 am tomorrow. A valve ruptured resulting in the release of its entire load of propane gas. Multiple agencies have responded to the scene including hazardous materials specialists. Road closure information can be found at quickmap.dot.ca.gov.”
