Scanner traffic beginning at approximately 4:58 p.m. indicated a California Highway Patrol Officer located an unidentified individual suffering from a gunshot wound on the side of a road north of Santa Rosa.
Found near the intersection Mark West Springs Road and Redwood Hill Road, officers attempted to provide aid but by 5:00 p.m. the officer told dispatch the individual had passed away.
Roadblocks are reportedly being established so investigators can process the scene.

UPDATE 7:27 p.m.: CHP Public Information Officer David DeRutte provided more information about the circumstance. He told us a CHP officer responded to a “suspicious circumstances call.” When the officer arrived, a vehicle was located and “observed a male in the driver seat with a gunshot wound.” Fire personnel and Sonoma County Sheriff responded to the scene, who is handling the investigation, and will release the identity of the decedent at a later date.
