Driver Who Collided with Two Juveniles Yesterday Was ‘Impaired by the Sun’, Says FPBD

The following is a press release issued by the Fort Bragg Police Department:

On November 16, 2021 at approximately 08:11 a.m., Officers responded to the report of a vehicle striking two juvenile pedestrians at the intersection of Oak and Harold Street. Upon arrival, all involved parties were contacted, and Medical Aid was en route to the area.

After Fire and Medical arrived, the two juveniles were treated on-scene. One Juvenile was released to the custody of their parent with minor injuries. The other Juvenile was transported to the Adventist Health Mendocino Coast Hospital with moderate injuries.

The initial investigation revealed that the juveniles were lawfully crossing the street in the crosswalk when they were struck by the driver. At the time of the collision, the driver’s vision was impaired by the sun.

The driver of the involved vehicle stopped prior to first responder’s arrival, and was cooperative with the collision investigation. Questions regarding this press release may be directed to Captain O’Neal at 707-961-2800 ext. 120 or at toneal@fortbragg.com.
