At approximately 10:00 a.m. today Ukiah Police Department officers converged on a vehicle reported stolen out of Sacramento resulting in officers drawing their firearms and arresting 26-year-old Concord man Emil Redzic for various crimes.
Ukiah Police Department Lieutenant Andrew Phillips told us UPD was informed a stolen vehicle was in the city limits by a representative of Sirius Satellite Radio. The owner of that vehicle had initiated the vehicle’s GPS tracking technology allowing officers to close in on the suspect eventually pulling the vehicle over into the McDonald’s parking lot on the 1300 block of North State Street.
A video provided by a Mendocino County resident also shows Mendocino County Sheriff’s deputies on scene.
The suspect was ordered out of the vehicle at gunpoint, Lieutenant Phillips explained, and detained without incident. A female passenger was also temporarily detained, but not found culpable in the crimes.
The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Concord man Emil Redzic, was arrested and booked into the Mendocino County jail for multiple charges. Lieutenant Phillips said the charges he faces that stem from the stolen vehicle incident included possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, and displaying false license plates in a vehicle.
Ukiah Police had also sought Redzic for his connection to a November 2, 2021 incident, explained Lieutenant Phillips, where he reportedly attempted to dissuade or intimidate a witness resulting in the violation of a domestic violence restraining order. Redzic was on active probation in Contra Costa County, Lieutenant Phillips added.
The vehicle is now stored and waiting to be picked up by its owner.
Redzic was reportedly arrested in Concord, California in February 2017, as per an article in the East Bay Times. He reportedly flagged down a police vehicle while “hallucinating on methamphetamine” eventually being handcuffed and placed in the back of a police car. Redzic then reportedly was able to “get his feet out from underneath him,” proceeded to try and kick out the door, and used a lighter in an attempt to light the vehicle on fire when he could not kick his way out.
Please note, the charges Redzic now stands accused of have yet to be proven in a court of law, and based on the presumption of innocence, he should be considered innocent before being proved guilty.
