35-year-old Fort Bragg man Kyle Stephen Pinckney will face charges of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated as a result of a November 6, 2021 vehicle collision that led to the death of his passenger who is an unidentified 35-year-old Fort Bragg man.
A press release issued by the California Highway Patrol characterized that evening as cool and dry when Pinckney drove his 2018 Ford pickup at a high rate of speed eastbound on Simpson Lane west of Hill O Home Road. The collision occurred at 10:50 p.m when “the Ford left the roadway and collided with a tree on the south shoulder of Simpson lane.” The unnamed Fort Bragg man “sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision.”
Pinckney was reportedly arrested at the scene, received medical clearance, and was booked into the Mendocino County Jail that evening.
The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Booking Logs indicate Kyle Stephen Pinckney was booked that night for possession of an assault weapon, carrying a loaded firearm, and DUI causing bodily injury.
CHP Officer Alex Kimball of the Ukiah office told us that with the death of the vehicle’s passenger, Pinckney will now also face charges of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
Both Pinckney and the passenger were reportedly wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision and as per the press release, “alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor to this collision.”
With due respect to the victim of the circumstances described, it must be stated that the charges contained in the booking log have not been proven in a court of law. In accordance with the legal principle of the presumption of innocence, any individual described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty.
