Scanner traffic and the California Highway Patrol Traffic Incident Information indicate State Route 1, a primary artery of Mendocino County’s coastline, has been shut down south of Caspar due to a tree falling and blocking both lanes.

County Roads and other workers are responding to the scene to both display signage communicating the closure and work to clear the roadway.

UPDATE 2:19 p.m.: As of 1:55 p.m., one-way traffic control has been in effect as crews continue to clear the roadway.

Please remember that this story is unfolding. Information is being reported as we gather it. However, some of the information coming from witnesses and initial official reports could be wrong.
