Information gleaned from the California Highway Patrol Traffic Incident Information page and the police scanner indicates a motorcyclist has died after colliding with a vehicle on the south end of Ukiah.
The incident occurred around 5:00 p.m. near the intersection of South State Street and Beacon Lane and reports describe the motorcyclist flying off the roadway as a result of the collision.
Some or all lanes of South State Street are going to be shut down at the intersection with Wabash Avenue as a result of the collision.
UPDATE 5:55 p.m.: The Caltrans Quickmap indicates both north and southbound traffic on South State Street is heavily impacted as a result of the collision.
UPDATE 6:09 p.m.: An officer at the scene told dispatch South State Street is closed and drivers should use Beacon Lane to South Dora Street to get around the closure.

Most vehicles travel above 50 mph on that section. I’ve rarely seen speed inforcement there.

I called the sheriff’s office, spoke to someone there and at the CHP, then, finally, a dispatcher for the City and let them know how traumatizing it was to come upon the scene and see the body covered, except for the feet.
I can’t un-see that and suggested they cover fatalities completely, so nothing more can be known or guessed about the deceased.
I also learned that fatalities have to remain in situ until the investigation is complete. That took almost 3 hours, I think.
So sorry someone perished!
