Big Rig Overturns on State Route 20 Near Lucerne Significantly Impacting Traffic

Categories:

The California Highway Patrol Traffic Incident Information page indicates around 12:36 p.m. a big rig struck a utility pole along State Route 20 in Lake County after which the haul of hay it was transporting spilled in the roadway.

No injuries resulted from the incident but the westbound lane south of Lucerne was blocked due to the vehicle and its cargo.

Of note for anyone traveling on State Route 20, as of 3:08 p.m., the Caltrans Quickmap shows traffic has significantly slowed in the area of the incident.

A video of the incident sent to us by a resident surmised the incident could have been a result of the high winds in the area pushing the big rig, but that has not been confirmed by any official reports.

  1. Judging where it’s located it was probably a combination of speed, turns, and winds. Trucks and cars underestimate those turns by the elementary school all the time. That is right where the speed limit slows entering back into town so the truck easily could have been going a little too fast.
