Scanner traffic around 3:35 p.m. indicated Mendocino County Calfire personnel took notice of a column of smoke burning near the general area of Highway 175 or Old Toll Road southeast of Hopland. The firefighter described the column as looking bigger than a controlled burn.

Dispatch was able to confirm that the smoke is the result of a controlled burn near Highland Springs, a small community between Hopland and Kelseyville.

A view from the Kelseyville AlertWildfire Camera does show a considerable column in the area described by the firefighter.

This is an approximation of the controlled burn’s location
