The Mendocino County Homeless Services Continuum of Care (MCHSCoC) will be conducting its annual unsheltered Point-In-Time (PIT) Count which will begin at sunset on February 23, 2022, and run through the following week.  The Point in Time (PIT) Count is mandated by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development and is used by the State of California and multiple Federal Departments to calculate allocations of homeless services funding. The data received through the PIT Count will help our local community to identify needs and develop planning to engage and support those persons experiencing homelessness throughout Mendocino County.

The Continuum of Care is a group of agencies that consist of service providers, non-profits, faith-based organizations, concerned community members, and Mendocino County staff. These individuals and agencies come together to help address the needs of those who are experiencing homelessness or are at-risk of homelessness. This undertaking requires a lot of individuals performing a lot of different tasks in preparation for this event, as well as surveying individuals and families experiencing homelessness throughout Mendocino County. We need volunteers to count along the Coast as well as Southern and Northern Inland portions of Mendocino County.

If you would like to volunteer, please sign up at https://Mendocino22.PointInTime.info/. If you have questions or would like further information, please contact Veronica Wilson at hometeam@mendocinocounty.org or (707) 468-7071.

  1. How do you count a people who don’t count? Police assault every homeless camp on a regular basis. You can’t sleep, you can’t cook, you can’t shelter in place. We have cell for you though. We have a court room full of county and state employees who need you to fill their dockets.

  2. They just cut all the brush along 101 so homeless cannot hide. They ran them off after local newspaper photographer got ripped off at Peartree. I doubt homeless did that but the got blamed. Like blowing your leaves into the neighbors yard. Oppressing the homeless is a lose lose program. Many have nothing to lose and violence or arson become the weapon of desprrate people. They send incendiary balloons over the Gaza fence daily into Isreal. You don’t read that in USA news. Are we ready for that kind of war? One man on a bicycle started 12 fires in Ukiah. It is stupid to oppress people with nothing to lose.

  3. I spent years traveling around the USA on my adaptive wheelchair exploring America’s homeless problem. I’ve seen what works but most often seen what does not work. You can read my journals on crazyguyonabike.com under my name or thegimprider. I’ve been banned from posting. I’ve been banned from posting on AVA because I challenge Bruce for his delusions. I am a prophet and just like every prophet in history I dwell outside the city gates. I challenge anyone to debate the bible with me. Churches show me the door quickly because I know the book better than their scholars. Sodom was destroyed for being brutal to strangers and travelers. It had nothing to do with sex.

I like to think of myself as a journalist for the everyman. Journalism has become a craft practiced largely by the urban elite. It’s time to take it back. I have been an Emerald Triangle resident since 2006 and this is year ten in Mendocino County. Please, email me at matthewplafever@gmail.com if you know a story that needs to be told.
