A Mendocino County Superior Court jury returned from its deliberations late Wednesday morning (February 16th) to announce it had acquitted the trial defendant of the two misdemeanor charges.

Raymond Joseph Espinoza, age 52, of Ukiah, had been charged with — but, again, has now been acquitted of — Criminal Threats, misdemeanor violation of Penal Code section 422, and Making Annoying or Harassing Telephone Calls, a misdemeanor violation of Penal Code section 653m.

The law enforcement agency that investigated the underlying circumstances was the Special Investigative Unit of the Health and Human Services Agency.

The attorney who presented the HHSA SIU evidence to the jury was Deputy District Attorney Joshua Raines.

Mendocino County Superior Court Judge Victoria Shanahan presided over the three-day trial.

  1. No public pretender? They only plead out. Be your own attorney and you get discovery, all that evidence that did not get collected, plus the body cam footage police love to hide. If you can’t afford a lawyer be you own. They really hate that and will warn you and even threaten you. If you are guilty this will backfire.

  2. Who is Ray Espinoza? What were the circumstances? The is really lazy reporting. Couldn’t some one wander over to the Court House and get some real information?
