Categories:

About 1:30 this afternoon a patient on a 5150 hold (being detained with mental health issues) escaped near the Mendocino/Humboldt County line. According to Samantha Karges, a spokesperson for the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department, an ambulance company reported that a patient had fled from their care in the area of the Cooks Valley Patriot Station.

She told us in a statement by email, “The patient reportedly brandished a pocket knife at the ambulance personnel and fled into a wooded area. Law enforcement conducted a search of the area but were unable to locate the patient.”

According to Karges, the patient is “a 19-year-old white male, approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall, 212 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes. He was last seen wearing dark blue hoodie, blue jeans and a camo hat.”

She told us that the photo law enforcement has is from DMV which they are restricted from releasing in these circumstances. In addition, she said, “[B]ecause of HIPAA, we can’t release his name right now.”

If anyone has any information, please call the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department at (707) 445-7251.

  1. They can tell everybody he’s crazy but they can’t release his identifying information until he hurts or kills somebody.

    Got it.

    • 5150 literally translates to “mentaly ill subject”

It is a broad term that includes more than just suicidal tendencies.

      • I have been 5150 6 times. It is danger to self or others and any police officer can make that determination. The last time was in Ukiah because my sister claimed I made a death threat on Farcebook. They held me over 80 hours and ended up transfering me down to St Helena. The shrink looked online at my post and sent me home. Ukiah Hospital did not notify VA.
