Lake County Parent Under Investigation for Allegedly Recording Conversation With School Superintendent Without Consent

The following is a press release issued by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

Yesterday, March 1st, 2022, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office became aware of an incident involving a parent upset about a school policy allegedly recording a private conversation between themselves and the school superintendent without the superintendent’s consent.

An investigation was initiated and resulted in the issuance of a search warrant that was served today, March 2nd, 2022. Pursuant to the search warrant, several items were seized and will be examined to determine whether or not a crime has been committed.

This is an ongoing investigation. As with any allegation of criminal activity, there is always a presumption of innocence until proven guilty. Anyone with information related to this investigation is asked to contact Deputy Nate Newton at nathaniel.newton@lakecountyca.gov or (707)262-4200.

  1. It’s my understanding that the superintendent resigned. Sounds like a much bigger issue here than a parent recording their conversation. Schools have a lot of power theses days. Interesting to say the least.

  2. This is absurd. There are much bigger things to worry about then not being told someone is recording. The parent may have a good reason why they were recording. Why not go after the drug dealers child sex traffickers and so on. Get it together law enforcement.

  3. “Hello mr criminal. May I record our conversation about crime and doing illegal stuff?”
The two party consent law is yet another absurd superseding of federal law by the state of CA.

  4. whats the problem? the schools have been behaving in a lawless manner for years now.
what else is there to do???? get the truth out.

  5. When you get arrested you get discovery, that includes body cam footage when you choose to be your own attorney.
More and more laws protect the guilty in America. If your rich your not guilty 99% of the time unless the feds want you.

  6. What the hell, Lake county law enforcement are pursuing this when there are still people out there using plastic straws?

  7. California has no laws regarding taping a public official. As long is it is public property. Ie the school.
