Information is fluid at this point, but as of 5:02 p.m., Willits Police Department and Willits Utility personnel are on the scene of an incident in which a fire hydrant was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene. Water is gushing upward from the broken hydrant.

A spokesperson from the Willits Police Department told us the incident occurred on the corner of Shell Lane and Baechtel Road. One-way traffic control is in place as personnel work to shut off the water.

UPDATE 5:19 p.m.: Scanner traffic indicates the water has been shut off by utility crews at the scene.

Please remember that this story is unfolding. Information is being reported as we gather it. However, some of the information coming from witnesses and initial official reports could be wrong. We will do our best to get the facts but, in the case that something is inaccurate, we will update with correct information as soon as we can.
