Death in the Mendocino National Forest— Individual Dies from Injuries After Being ‘Impaled With a Stick’

Scanner traffic from this morning indicates that a person has died at the Mendocino National Forest Middle Creek Campground after reportedly being “impaled with a stick.”

Around 10:10 a.m., medical personnel was requested to the Middle Creek campground and an air ambulance was deployed due to the nature of the injury. The air ambulance would never make it to the scene.

Upon arrival, medics characterized the incident as “code blue” which means the medical emergency is serious and the patient needs immediate, life-saving care.

Sadly, the medics then reported to dispatch the incident was a “confirmed 1144”, code for the patient had succumbed to their injuries. A Lake County Sheriff’s Office coroner was requested to the scene.

We have reached out to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office about the incident and will update you when more information is available.

Middle Creek Campground is on Forest Road M-1 and is a popular destination for campers in the Mendocino National Forest. The campground offers 23 campsites, toilets, water access, and close proximity to popular off-roading trails nearby.
