The California Highway Patrol Traffic Incident Information Page and scanner traffic indicate CHP is on the scene of a dead, pawless bear along Highway 101 south of Laytonville.
Reports state the bear was struck by a vehicle last night near the intersection of Highway 101 and Shamrock Lane. When CHP officers came on the scene around 8:38 a.m., they found that someone had removed the paws from the dead animal.
Upon contacting Fish and Game, CHP learned that a warden could not respond immediately, though they might be able to pick up the animal later, so CHP said the creature should be moved out of the lanes and onto the side of the road.
Caltrans reportedly arrived on the scene and removed the bear from the roadway.

“Today, bear parts are in high demand at black markets throughout Asia. The prized organs and extremities have reportedly been used in medicine to cure anything from sexual impotency to a fever. On the dining table, bear paws are used in soup and have even been known to get turned into ash trays.”
I passed this scene headed north. It was sad to see that beautiful animal like that. People ain’t right.
