Mendocino County Residents Rally for Roe v. Wade Outside Ukiah’s Courthouse

Nearly 100 residents gathered to voice their support for Roe v. Wade and abortion rights [All photographs taken by Peter Armstrong]

Today at 1:00 p.m. upwards of 100 Mendocino County residents rallied outside of Ukiah’s Mendocino County Courthouse to voice their dismay at recent revelations that the Supreme Court could be overturning the long-standing Roe v. Wade decision that enshrined women’s right to abortion into federal law.

Branded as a “Bans Off Our Bodies” Rally, the crowd gathered to voice their support for long-standing legal protections that supported women’s bodily autonomy. Hundreds of thousands took to the streets across the United States today to express a similar message. A rally took place in Fort Bragg at the same time.

Photographer Peter Armstrong was on the scene and told us that motorists were honking their horns in support of the rally’s message. His photographs of the participants follow:

  1. Wait until you actually have an abortion. Then hold up your signs. What you will feel the rest of your life is what they don’t tell you.

I have a great idea, how about all the women who have lost a precious baby to abortion go hold up signs telling THE TRUTH about how you they really feel. TAX PAYERS SHOULD NEVER FUND NON LIFE THREATENING ABORTION.

  2. Funny how you can’t even talk about killing yourself without getting locked up.
Gun control and abortions divide this country. There are issues far more important threatening our nation. Plus anyone with minor training can perform an abortion but you cannot sue if something goes wrong.
I would not be here if abortion was free in 1952. Abortion should not be a crime but it should not be birth control.

  3. “Bodily autonomy is a human right”
    “My body my choice”

I wonder where these ladies stand on mask and vaccine mandates…

  4. A lot of these girls look like teeny boppers. They have no life experience and have no right holding those signs! A lot of them may have abortions and end up suffering heartbreak and depression for the rest of their lives. NEVER get an abortion without listening to your child’s heartbeat first. Your womb is supposed to be a safe haven for your baby….not a tomb! Life starts at conception.❤️‍🩹 😭💔Unless it’s a medically necessary to save mama, please don’t…..pray for the women that have had abortions. They carry guilt, heartbreak, and deep sadness. No one tells them they will suffer these things long term. So I’m telling you. Please don’t use abortion for birth control.

    • Please don’t ….don’t get an abortion….pray for the women who have to heal. And the women who can avoid this trauma.

      • What about those women that raped and get pregnant? Do you think they should have to be made to have these children? And endure that trauma?!

      • Donna, as someone who has had an abortion, I can tell you that all I have felt over the last 20 years is relief. I am relieved everyday that I didn’t have to be a mother to an unwanted child, I am relieved that I didn’t have to maintain a relationship with a man that was nothing more than a fleeting, youthful fascination. I am relieved as I type this, that my life and choices have been my own, and that I had the liberty to decide what was best for me. The truths of women who have experienced abortion are myriad, and frankly, not as devastating as you want it to be. Do not disregard these young people for taking a stand on their rights, by reducing them to “teeny boppers” you fail to see the people they are, and what they are is the future. We owe it to these young people to be support systems that keep their paths clear of any obstacles that may hold them back in life, and for some, motherhood is an obstacle that shouldn’t have to be endured. Choice is a right that should not be infringed upon. Bodily autonomy is a right that should not be infringed upon. And people should be able to exercise these rights with dignity, and respect.

    • There were many women there holding signs who have had abortions. It is a woman’s choice, no matter the reason, an no one else’s business!

  5. I myself was pushed into a abortion at age of 15 right there in that very Court house,I was a ward of the Court,They told me if I didn’t have a abortion they would take my child from me.I live with that pain everyday of my life.Iam almost 50 And I still cry.

  6. Don’t want an abortion – don’t get one.
The religious right want to put us under their form of “shariah”-like religious law. Sickening and tragic.

  7. All paid protesters who get paid lunches delivered to them and stop right at 5pm.

Also if all of those teenage girls are out here in support of abortion then there’s a lot of people who are horrible parents in this town.

  8. As a mama of 4…. I completely agree this was my choice. All but one of my babies was a birth control baby and if I would have been 16 and having the same issue I did with birth control not working I would have wanted an option….. I would want my daughter to have the option if she was raped or made a fleeting mistake…. I’ve held friends hands when they lost babies, I’ve lost babies, I’ve birthed babies. Abortion isn’t an option for me but as long as used correctly why the fight over a safe (as safe as medically possible) procedure. As long as it’s not used as a form of birth control then let the women make their own choices. If this is passed there will be a lot more coat hanger abortions and loss of life…. Sad to see the world coming to fighting over things that were settled a long time ago….

  9. A recent poll showed that 25% of Americans believe that overturning Roe v. Wade will make all abortions illegal. Nothing could be further from the truth. It will throw the legislation for abortion back on to the individual states, where it should have always been. Even RBG understood that. She disapproved of Roe, and felt it was not woman-enabling but “physician-enabling”. Ironic that there is a pro-abortion group called “Ruth Sent Us”. Their ignorance is pathetic.
